Restaurant LEF
Tucked away at the edge of the Damvallei nature reserve in Destelbergen, the Poppe family has been running restaurant LEF for nearly two decades. What began as the modest café ’t Buikske Rond has evolved into a contemporary brasserie with a refined yet accessible cuisine. LEF collaborates closely with local producers for meat, dairy, vegetables, fruit, beers and wines, forming the foundation of their seasonal dishes. The menu brings together familiar classics, such as their beloved eel in green herb sauce based on a family recipe, with options that showcase the chef’s preference for fresh, colourful and modern combinations.

Our experience
What better way to start a new week than with a lovely lunch? On a Monday afternoon, I went out for lunch with a friend. The Winston Welcome reviewer on duty was Rudy, my friend’s dachshund, who was allowed to join us. We were given a separate table so we could enjoy our lunch in peace. We started with a glass of champagne, accompanied by some tasty amuse-bouches. Afterwards we chose the lunch menu. As a starter we had sardines with lettuce heart and avocado: fresh and full of flavour. For the main course we chose red gurnard with paprika and fennel, a beautiful and well-balanced combination. We finished with a cup of coffee, served with some delicious sweet treats. A lovely and tasty start to the week! As the owner indicates, no specific facilities for dogs are provided. Dogs are, however, welcome as long as they behave calmly.
